Meet Dan Dunbar
“The BAVUG is a great opportunity to meet other editors in the area, to stay on top of technology, and to be able to tap the knowledge base in this rapidly changing industry."
Dan is somewhat new to the Boston area, having returned in the autumn of 2016 after spending 26 years in New York City. The BAVUG is a great opportunity to meet other editors in the area, to stay on top of technology, and to be able to tap the knowledge base in this rapidly changing industry.
Starting in Boston as one of the staff editors for WBZ-TV's Evening Magazine, Dan then freelanced in the area for a few WGBH-sponsored documentaries before heading to the Big Apple. After years of documentary and fashion program editing, Dan bought the first AVR-75 Avid Media Composer that was sent in the field, set it up in his living room, and founded Mirage Media, Inc. in Manhattan. He worked through the rest of the 90s on his system, and began working at NBC in 2003. In 2007 he was hired as a staff editor for the United Nations, and returned to NBC in 2013.
Last year Dan decided to return to Boston, where he feels his home really is. Having settled now in Belmont, Dan is freelancing on Avid, Adobe Premiere, and Final Cut Pro.
